During the Korean War, happily married and retired fighter pilot Lt. Harry Brubaker (William Holden) is convinced to take to the skies once more to help stop the spread of Communism. Feeling that he has already done more than enough for his country in World War II, he resents having to spend long stretches of time on battleships, away from his wife Nancy (Grace Kelly).
