Lin McAdam is a sharpshooter arriving in Dodge City, where a competition for marksmen has as its prize a priceless and perfect Winchester repeating rifle. McAdam wins the rifle but it is stolen by the runner-up, his rival Dutch Henry Brown. Determined to regain the rifle, McAdam sets off in pursuit of the thief, but his quest turns into an almost epic voyage through American myth and history.
