BRIGHT is set in a modern-day Los Angeles in which orcs and elves live side by side with humans. Cops Daryl Ward (Will Smith) and Nick Jakoby (Joel Edgerton) navigate the perils of policing the community amid interspecies tension. Jakoby is the first orc to serve on the force, and pretty much all the human officers want him out, while orcs regard him as a race traitor. Then the street cops stumble across a "bright" (magic user) with a magic wand (called by Ward "a nuclear weapon that grants wishes"), and the race is on to get the bright and the wand to safety -- with human gangs, orc gangs, corrupt cops, and evil elves (led by Noomi Rapace) all trying to kill them.
